"The experimental documentary In War and Revolution explores both personal and collective amnesia during the political upheavals and war in Croatia in the early 1990s. Structured through parallel montage, the film juxtaposes an interview with the director’s 97-year-old grandmother – who attempts to recall her youth as a teacher in the anti-fascist movement during World War II – with images from the book School in War and Revolution, written by her husband and the filmmaker’s grandfather. These recollections are interwoven with footage of book fragments from the family’s private library and statements by several Zagreb intellectuals reflecting on the ideological purge of ""undesirable"" books carried out by the new Croatian state in the early 1990s."
