Cinema Tuškanac

The Croatian Film Association, in collaboration with the Croatian Cinematheque, launched the Film Programs in 2001 in response to a long-standing lack of cinematic art offerings, the absence of venues for non-repertory and non-commercial films, cinematheque content, alternative, experimental and amateur films, as well as the need for educational content for around fifty thousand high school and university students in Zagreb whose studies are related to media culture and film history.

Since 2005, the Croatian Film Association has independently managed Cinema Tuškanac, where it has continuously implemented these film programs until the cinema's temporary closure for full renovation.

As of October 2023, due to the renovation of the cinema building, the Croatian Film Association has been running the Cinema Tuškanac program under the title "Tuškanac on Tour" at the following locations across the City of Zagreb: the Cultural Information Center in Zagreb, Forum Cinema of the Student Center, Ribnjak Stage, and the Histrion House Cultural Center.

Cinema Tuškanac consistently offers a high-quality cinematheque program of international and Croatian auteur films. Through retrospectives and portraits of individual filmmakers, thematic cycles, in memoriam screenings of recently deceased film artists, educational programs, and film festivals, the cinema continuously attracts a new, younger audience, as well as loyal viewers who regularly return to films worth experiencing on the big screen. In this way, Cinema Tuškanac upholds the tradition of "discovering new pinnacles of world cinema" while faithfully preserving the memory of those to whom we rightfully return.
