Fractals

The starting point was a real image of specially constructed objects. These gelatinous objects are puddings molded with miniature gold plates inside. The gels were illuminated by lasers and other lights while being rotated on the surface of a turntable. The light refracted and reflected off the pieces of gold. The recorded image was then processed using high-quality video processors, creating new visual patterns. During the experiment, all processed images were recorded onto tape. Later selection and organization of the resulting video material produced animated giant machines that, through mathematical combinations of intersection, rotation, and release, create chaotic, unpredictable patterns—fractals.
