Zoethrope - Film and Media Educational-Research Center, Zagreb

Zoethrope - Film and Media Educational-Research Center, Zagreb, is an authorial platform for the production of audiovisual projects in the field of culture and arts. To encourage audiovisual creation, the Center designs and implements film, media, educational, and research projects — workshops, film research, and interpretive practicums. Starting from the thesis that film (among other things) is an effective epistemological tool — an instrument for analysis, understanding, and interpretation of cultural phenomena — the Center, in collaboration with educational and cultural institutions, develops programs connected with heritage and education, aimed at popularizing cultural topics.

The core goal of the Center’s activities is to encourage participation in cultural events and highlight the importance of knowledge and preservation of cultural and heritage values. Its work focuses on adopting and nurturing cultural habits, understanding cultural context, creating a qualified audience, and popularizing cultural themes through photography, documentary film, and video media.

In accordance with its goals, the Center operates in the fields of culture and arts, education, science and research, and technical culture.

• Organizing film and media educational, research, and interpretive workshops for participants of different ages, primarily children and youth
• Organizing and implementing multimedia projects (including film and music creation, visual arts, museology, and theater)
• Partner collaboration with cultural and educational institutions, as well as other related associations and institutions domestically and internationally
• Production of audiovisual works
• Preservation and archiving of film and other audiovisual works produced by the Center
