The Tomislav Gotovac Institute was founded on the initiative of the family of filmmaker, visual artist, and performer Tomislav Gotovac (1937–2010), with the goal of promoting, presenting, and preserving his artistic legacy. The Institute has so far initiated numerous exhibitions and screenings in Croatia and abroad, including retrospective exhibitions in Rijeka and Ljubljana (2017–2018) and Zagreb (2024), and has participated in many group exhibitions, such as Documenta 13 (Athens–Kassel, 2017).
The Institute provides information and distributes archival materials related to Gotovac’s body of work, and by appointment, welcomes visitors to the artist’s former apartment at Krajiška 29, where he spent most of his life. As of 2025, the Institute has significantly expanded its activities to include new cultural, educational, and activist projects rooted in Gotovac’s principle of permanent action, expressed in his statement: There is no difference between life and art.
