Friends from Dubrovnik graded films and presented Four River Film Festival in Seoul!
Seoul International Youth Film Festival is one of the biggest festivals of youth films in the world. From its beginnings in 1999 until today, it struggles to impose film and media culture as an educational alternative of art to youth culture and to the wide audience. Also, SIYFF tries to involve young people in all aspects of the festival organization, including members of the jury. Every year 20 young people from 10 different countries of the world comprise the youth jury. This year Croatian delegates - two high school students and their mentor have had the privilege to take part at the festival in Seoul from 21 to 28 August. Apart from the above, the Croatian delegation gave a lecture on the protection of film and music rights for high school filmmakers at the International Forum of Media Culture which took place in the framework of the festival, and presented Four River Film Festival - an international festival of high school film which is organized by the Croatian Film Association and the Cinema Club Karlovac and which in recent years has established itself as an important center of high school film.
Taking part at SIYFF in South Korea was a reward for winning the award at national Youth Film Festival in Karlovac. Neno Barović and Božo Urdević, students from Dubrovnik, who won the award for best documentary in June this year in Karlovac thus travelled to Seoul. Their mentor Marinko Bronzić, media educator in the Student Dorm in Dubrovnik and long-time participant in educational programs organized by the Croatian Film Association stayed with them. Is there a better incentive for young filmmakers from going to other festivals and meeting peers who are equally in love with the film? Today, when technology is more than available, children and young people find experiences like these the most important. Connectivity and cooperation of this kind are the most important segment in the work with children and youth, as it not only introduces them to different film languages, but also in different cultures, approaches and ways of thinking that will help them in future careers, regardless of whether they those film. On the other hand, this kind of networking sets the Croatian Film Club's Association on the Europe film map and makes it a desirable partner in various projects with regard to tenders and applications within the Creative Europe Program. Needless to mention that in Seoul they initiated cooperation with coleagues from China, Japan and Hong Kong, which demonstrates that the stay there was more than productive.
