Our representatives on a festival in Valencia!
From 24th until 28th of February, Valencia hosted the main part of the 4th MICE – international festival of children and youth films. The same as previous years, event gathered numerous guests and shown films and this year, besides Valencia, festival events happened in Madrid and Alicante.
Members of School of Animated Film from Čakovec, mentor Jasminka Bijelić Ljubić and Nika Jaučovec, a student were in Valencia as representatives of Croatian Film Association. Nika had an opportunity to participate in a festival in Spain thanks to the success of her animated film on the Croatian Children’s Film Festival last year.
MICE connects young talents with their peers from around the world while exchanging experiences and ideas, having fun, teaching and creating a network amongst creative youth. Our representatives in Valencia participated in various festival programs connected to film and similar art. Besides participating at the opening ceremony of the festival in the Palau de la Musica Hall, mentor Jasminka Bijelić Ljibuć participated at the round table based on development of audiovisual culture as a part of national school curriculum, while Nika participated at film workshop and manga illustration for children workshop. Festival programs were held at different locations in the city which allowed our representatives larger experience of the atmosphere of exotic Valencia. They visited MUVIM, museum of illustration and contemporary arts, as well as city film library and cultural center Artesania.
During joint programs, guests presented productions of their film clubs and schools from different parts of the world and in that way promoted festival and film activities in their native countries. Jasminka and Nika distributed materials connected to festivals organized by Croatian Film Association and promoted their work within School of Animated Film which is one of the oldest Croatian children film clubs (founded in 1975) It stresses the importance of participation of our representatives at international festivals because, besides networking and meeting young talented artists, this is a way for Croatian youth film creation to be positioned on a world map. Our representatives came from Valencia full of impressions and richer with some important connections. We hope that Nika will use her new knowledge as soon as possible in her new, awarded film!
