NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL FILMS UNDER WATCHFUL EYES!
The audiences of the 16th Youth Film Festival and the 4th Four River Film Festival, will, during the 4 festival days, have a chance to enjoy 84 films from all corners of Croatia and the world, however, one particular trio will be viewing the films with particularly watchful eyes. Between 7th and 10th September, Karlovac will be the cetre of film events for young people, and the one who will remember this year’s edition with a special fondness will be decided precisely by this strict trio. We are of course talking about the festival jury who will have to decide on a total of nine out of eleven awards, which are: one award, both in the YFF and FRFF programs, in each film category: animated, documentary, live action and freestyle, and an award that in a way combines both festivals – the Grand Prix for best film. The fact that the films in the program come from 22 different countries, deciding which one is the best becomes very hard, but that is precisely why the jury is comprised of renowned film experts.
Andrei Tanase is a Romanian film and TV writer and director, who, after graduating film and theatre arts, found his calling in directing short films. Very soon he started making commercials but did not stop there. In 2008, he started writing for the sitcom Timpuri Noi, very popular in Romania. Precisely because of his experience and numerous awards and recognitions, one of which from the film festival in Cannes, he gets one of the jury hot seats. Aldo Tardozzi will also keep his eyes wide open and on the film screen. Even though his name seems to tell otherwise, he is in fact a Croatian director whose new film Spots (Fleke) was the only feature Croatian film screened at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival. The visitors of this year’s YFF and FRFF will have a chance to see the film for themselves because it will be screened within the Dubovec Open Air program. After graduating from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb, Aldo Tardozzi started working on music and commercial videos while today his name is also associated with the most popular Croatian TV series such as Bitange i princeze. The third part of tour jury trio, Gabor Rethi, is a filmmaker from Hungary and a master of animation. You could say he is a 3in1 sort of man: animation artist, animation lecturer and teacher at the University in Budapest. In any case, this writing-directing-animation trio has a lot of work ahead of them!
