Sterle;Sandra

Sandra Sterle was born in 1965, in Zadar. She is living and working in Split, where she works as assistant professor of New Media at the Academy of Art in Split. In 1989, she graduated at the Academy of Visual Art in Zagreb and continued her studies at Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf, 1995/96. From 1991 to 2000 she lived and worked in Amsterdam, where her work won her scholarships and awards from the BKVB (Fonds voor beeldende kunsten), while Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunsten 1999. granted her the ArtsLink scholarship. She also worked at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, USA, In 2001, in cooperation with ArtsLink she won the Ford Foundation grant and participated in the Franklin Furnace The Future of the Present Program. She conducted a workshop at the Parsons College of Art and Design in New York with the Bosnian artist Danica Dakić, with whom she realized the project go HOME in the Location 1 gallery. She has been participating at international exhibitions, residencies and festivals from 1995. She researches herself and her story at the same time as the media ranging from performance, photography, cd-rom, video, Internet to web streaming. Her works featured in important retrospectives of Croatian video art like “Frame by Frame”, “Personal Cinema Program”, “Insert” and the Dutch retrospective “A Short History of Dutch Video Art”.
