Educational program: the choice has never been greater!
From June 23 to 27 Karlovac will truly be living in a film! We'll watch films made by film-lovers from around the world, we'll compete with our films, we will learn about films and think about new film ideas. Of course, along with all of that we'll have a great time on crazy picnics and swimming, and maybe watch some films out of the water. After a refreshment during the evening program, the next day we'll choose one of the workshops in which we can learn anything from a needle to an elephant! Hmm, maybe better than that, we'll learn to find ideas for your own film creation and to analyze other film works.

For those who have always known how to analyse films or those who just want to learn, Boško Picula, a film critic and a member of this year's selection committee, will teach us about film reviews. How to write film reviews? Who are the film critics and should fear their reviews? Are film critics ordinary mortals, or they are higher beings? However, each director fears the words of respected film critics, and if you like watching movies and are interested in writing movie reviews, then this is the workshop for you.

Ana Đordić, Professor of Croatian and media culture is also a member of the selection committee and leads a workshop about the selection of topics in high school films. What themes predominate at this year's Festivals? How to choose the right topic and how important it is to know how to choose the theme of the film well? If you ever thought that you made a mistake in choosing ideas and / or themes for your film, and what is the difference between ideas and themes of the film, find the answers to these and similar questions at this workshop.

From the topic we move into action. Do you want to make a real action film, but do not know how? In other words, you fear that you cannot get all the effects that you would like? Luka Hrgović, today a successful filmmaker and former winner of the festival knows all about special effects and wants to transfer his knowledge to young and talented filmmakers. So go ahead! (Now you hear the sound effect when you realize that you should just go to this workshop - maybe that does not exist, but because there are 1000 others that you can learn.)

Two young ladies Amanda Prenkaj and Petra Kurtela will have a workshop on acting in film. Both are highly successful film, theatre and television actresses, Amanda and Petra can share their own experiences and show you the little secrets of acting in front of the camera.
This year in the educational program we have a Macedonian duo: Stefan Palitov will hold a workshop about one-minute film, while his colleague Darko Petrovski will hold the one called Photo story. Can one minute mean a good film? How much material should be recorded to create a one-minute film? Are majority of one-minute films experimental? What are the examples of best one-minute films? Come and find out! And if you are more interested in how to take photos and make a photo story, then Darko is the right person to be contacted. Otherwise, Stefan and Darko are members of the organizing team Giffoni Macedonia and this segment of the education program is actually a continuation of successful cooperation between the Macedonian branch of Giffoni and Croatian Film Association.

Finally, if you have a good idea, a great script, the whole film crew, but do not know how to produce your film venture? Producer Tina Tišljar, an external associate for the promotion and sale of Croatian Audiovisual Centre will introduce you to the Production aspects of high school films, and after her lecture, maybe the light bulb over your head turns on and you understand what to focus your attention on.

Dear educators and mentors, if you find workshops that we have prepared for your students exciting and interesting, we have prepared extra bananalicious workshops for you! Domagoj Rubić from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre will hold a workshop on How to use the financial support of Croatian Audiovisual Centre to work with high school students. Professor Cheryll Hidalgo from Seattle Academy of Art and Science and a member of this year's jury will show us from her long-lasting experience how to work with young filmmakers and on experimental film, while Nikola Janković, sound designer from Belgrade and a former participant of the festival will show you why sound, together with picture is most important means of expression. So, we will bring you principles of recording and processing sound on film. Ivana Štedul, an occupational therapist, will present how film may serve as a therapeutic means.
Along with these workshops, school student Antonio Britvar will this year high hold a workshop on TV reports for children from Karlovac Children's Home "Vladimir Nazor". Ten children will run a TV program about the festival under the expert baton of Antonio who last year proved to be an excellent mentor on his workshop about feature film. In some ways it will be a gift for the children from the children’s home.

Furthermore, the Master of Sculpture Nikola Faller and painter Bojan Kiski, who is actually from Karlovac ,will run a workshop on creating straw sculptures! In this practical workshop, an introduction to the technique of binding, children of kindergarten age, but also pupils and older students will learn how to make small straw presents and will jointly make a big banana sculpture. In the spirit of Midsummer bonfire which overlaps with the first day of the Festivals, at the opening ceremony the straw banana will be ignited!
And, icing on the cake, we are prepare a panel discussion on River Korana with the theme: 'How to become a successful film professional from high school filmmaker?' Film experts who made their first film in primary or secondary schools know the most about this topic. How much is the experience worth and do our well-known directors, screenwriters, directors of photography, producers, actors and editors remember their high school teachers and their first film steps? We'll find out at the panel discussion!
