TV Series Novo Doba (New Age)

The story of TV series New Age was placed in the Dalmatian biggest city Split, it deals with the daily newspaper (Novo doba / New Age) journalists and their lives. The series was heavily promoted, its TV attendance was quite satisfactory, but its results were disappointing for most Croatian critics. There are basically two sets of weak points connected with the series. First, the script was filled with cliché ideas about journalists, the circumstances of their work, and about Split.

The director did nothing to improve the script, and he did not show that he can work well with actors and work successfully on the character and situation development. Second, it was a strategic mistake to announce the series so boastfully by its author — as the best written script, and with the excellent performance by ’naturally gifted’ native Split actors and non-actors. The Croatian public opinion does not receive well boastfulness by the artists, especially if the result is not better then that of other average Croatian TV-series.
