In Memory of a Scientist, Teacher, Film Lover and Good Man, Stjepko Težak

(Požun, near Ozalj, 22 July 1926 — Zagreb, 1 August 2006)

An obituary of the famous Croatian linguist and film pedagogue, Stjepko Težak (PhD). Although more famous as a dialectologist and co-author of the official Croatian grammar, Težak is also most distinguished Croatian methodologist and film pedagogue. The project to introduce media culture classes (film and later television and comics) to primary and secondary schools in Croatia within the lesson of maternal language and literature is a pioneer project on a world level and it was executed at his initiative in the 1960s. Considering the film, the earliest initiative towards media education of children is the book Film in the Lesson of Croatian-Serbian Language, 1967 (Film u nastavi hrvatskosrpskog jezika) that after a series of issues culminated with the comprehensive Methodology of Film Teaching, 2000 (Metodika nastave filma).
