An Encyclopedia of Directors for the 21st Century

The encyclopedia of film authors encompasses
those for whom it can be, with certainty, asserted that
they will be the principal creative force in world cinema
for the next several decades. The author’s selection was
based on more or less objection criteria: festival representation,
awards, international significance and fame. The fundamental
criterion for inclusion in the list was age, and of the
26 authors included, all are younger than 35.
With regard
to the fact that Croatia suffers from a chronic lack of
information about current world cinema outside the mainstream,
this selection includes authors from small countries including
Taiwan, Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia, and Tadzhikistan. The
listed authors overcame the objective hurdles that naturally
befall those belonging to small cultures, and managed to
find a place for their work in the world, albeit in the
limited ghetto of festivals, retrospective and art cinemas.
