The initial assumption is that in the past horror films underused the possibility of social and political criticism. The text deals with the recent period of American horror film that reflects the subversive attitudes of the author more evidently, which led to the sympathy of the theory and the critics, as well as a renewed interest from the audience. In the first part of the text we set forth the assumptions that, in different forms, led to the renewed interest of the audience for the genre. Interestingly, the three most important films of this small wave of “aware horrors” were shot by veteran filmmakers: Frank Darabont, George A.
