THE RENAISSANCE OF PUBLISHING?
Profil’s library Bibliography and filmography
Ellen Cheshire and John Ashbrook, 2004, Joel and Ethan Coen, Zagreb: Profil; James Clarke, 2004, Steven Spielberg, Zagreb: Profil; Paul Donnelley, 2004, Marilyn Monroe, Zagreb: Profil; Martin Fitzgerald, 2004, Woody Allen, Zagreb: Profil
In the first series of the new edition Bibliography and filmography a dynamic Zagreb publishing house and library Profil published four new titles not intended only for film lovers. Modestly designed and not very elaborate booklets are dedicated to esteemed, productive and popular directors Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen and the Coen brothers, and the legendary Marilyn Monroe, probably the greatest pop-cultural icon of the 20th century. The style of the books is simple and easy-to-read. With short biographies and mostly elaborate filmographies of particular artists, the booklets on occasion offer rather detailed and layered analysis of individual films. The most valuable is the book about the Coen brothers and the weakest probably the one about Steven Spielberg. Although they do not include any valuable critical or analytical texts, they will most certainly efficiently fill the gap in the Croatian film publishing scene.
