The magic of non-moving images

On the occasion of the publication of the book Comic Books, Ninth Art by Ranko Munitić, Zagreb: Art9, 2010

Shortly before his death, Ranko Munitić, the recently deceased doyen of the Yugoslav theory of animation and comics, published a book on the theory of comics based on his cult text dating from an earlier period in his life. Josip Grozdanić tackles the importance of such books for the development of the theory of comics in Croatia, as well as the overestimation of the medium itself. Moreover, he touches on the key points in the history of comics and forms his opinion on the reliability of some of the value systems set out in the book.
