THE FACES OF WORLD CINEMA

The Koker Trilogy by Abbas Kiarostami

The essay on The Koker Trilogy (Rostam-abad) by Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, the trilogy referring to Where is the Friend’s Home (Khane-ye doust kodjast?, 1987), And Life Goes On (Zendegi va digar hich, 1992) and Through the Olive Trees (Zire darakhatan zeyton, 1994), tackles the specificity of Kiarostami’s manner of working with non-professional actors and the relation with observational documentary shooting techniques which, influenced by Italian neo-realism, turn his films into poetry.
