FROM THE HISTORY OF CROATIAN CINEMA

From the History of Croatian Television (2)

Cultural-art program’s shows in 1965

In the sequel of the text from the previous issue of the Croatian Cinema Chronicle, the author reports on the reception of the shows from 1965. — internal reviews and opinions within Zagreb Radio Television mainly point out that the radio has a concept of its daily program that is superior in quality to that of the television. But, Screen on Screen and Openly on Thursday by Zagreb television are among »the most popular shows of Yugoslav TV program«. On the other hand, it warns that the program is unreliable and irregular, and the press (where the author found interesting excerpts) has some interesting suggestions about television concept. The shows Studio 13 and Portraits and Encounters were praised, and the texts by Branko Belan and Milorad Vučković about the shows Panorama and Openly on Thursday are characteristic for different opinions about certain shows. The most important event in the culture and art shows in the period 1964-1965 was the first live coverage of Dubrovnik Summer Festival, on the occasion of their closure on August, 24th 1964, when Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra performed under the direction of Zubin Mehta at Držićeva poljana. This live coverage is important for the evolution of Zagreb Television on the whole, and the press of that period (especially Studio, a magazine that specialized in a new media of television) realized the importance of this event.
