: ON THE BORDERLINES OF GENRE — DAYS OF CROATIAN FILMS 2003

Qualitatively solid, standard short film categories — feature, documentary, special-purpose films (usually commercials) and video clips, experimental and animated film, haven’t given a particularly original choice of topics at 12th Days of Croatian Cinema, insisting on social themes and especially documentaries. Five mid-length and twelve short documentaries were screened, together with twenty-six commercials and sixteen video clips, ten animated films, thirteen experimental films, and thirteen feature films (twelve short films and one mid-length), but all lacking a real creative tension. Nevertheless, some, though slight, improvement in Croatian cinematography could be felt, and although the steps are small, it obviously is going in the right direction towards a better future.
