Still an Interesting Cinema — Poles in Tuškanac
Program of Contemporary Polish Films, Film Programmes, May 9-15, 2006
Essayistic review of
the programme of contemporary Polish film presented as
part of Film Programmes in Zagreb. There is a short review
of the Polish film after the Second World War and the state
of Polish film after the fall of communism and the death
of the latest great author, Krzysztof Kieslowski, when
that great European cinematography seems to have started
losing momentum. The author comments on the latest Polish
trend of going back to »small« films, after a few attempts
at big state productions (Ogniem i mieczem, 1999; Pan
Tadeusz, 1999; Quo vadis, 2001; W pustyni
i w puszczy, 2001). He also discusses new films by
distinguished younger authors presented in the Programmes
(Jerzy Stuhr, Krzysztof Krauze, Dariusz Gajewski, Magdalena
Piekorz). Tomislav Kurelec |
