ESSAYS IN NOSTALGIA
Salted pumpkin seeds — cinephile’s nutritional obsessions
A respected and popular contemporary novelist,
Goran Tribuson, in a humorous tone gives an nostalgic recollection
of his teenage filmgoer’s experiences from the »nutritional«
point of view, namely through anecdotes connected with
the consumption of food before, during and after the film
shows. E. g. he recollects his obese friend, Zumzo, who
could not watch movies without eating, always complaining
not to be able to bring rich enough lunch packet with him
to last him the whole course of a movie. He used to be
furious at the films that were too long for his nutritional
reserves. Tribuson then anecdotically goes through the
whole list of food items connected with cinemagoing: salted
pumpkin seeds, tattooed cakes, iron hard candies, first
chewing gums, and finally, the whole course of meals prepared
by Zumzo for watching films now on video at home, the best
films being now those that last as long as possible. Goran Tribuson |
