From Tears to Laughter (Hungarian Films on 1956 Revolution)

Program of Hungarian Films III, Film Programmes, April, 2006

A review of Hungarian films which deal with Hungarian revolution of 1956. Special part of the text is dedicated to the peaks of the retrospective — Marta Meszaros’ films Diary for My Parents (Napló apámnak, anyámnak, 1990), and Unburried Man (A temetetlen halott, 2004), her latest film dealing with the trial of Imre Nagy, which are commented within the context of her whole biography and entire opus.

The rest of the text reviews the other films from the program: Time Stands Still (Megáll az idö, 1982) by the great Hungarian director Péter Gothár, and Whooping Cough (Szamárköhögés, 1987) by Péter Gárdos, On Death Row (A Halálraítélt, 1989) by János Zsomboly, Colossal Sensation! (Világszám!, 2004) by Róbert Koltai and The Midas Touch (Eldorádó, 1989) by Géza Beremény.
