STUDIES AND RESEARCHES — FROM THE HISTORY OF CROATIAN FILM

Film as a historical source for the study of Rijeka industrial heritage

The study is dealing with early history of film in Rijeka, i.e. points to film materials as historical, archivist resources for the study of Rijeka industrial heritage. Although most of early film stock had been lost, secondary sources revealed that 29 films were shot till 1917 in the area of Rijeka and Kvarner. Some of them could serve as resources for studying the history of Rijeka industry — Submarines and mines in the factory »Whitehead« in Rijeka (screened in 1910) and Drills with Whitehead Torpedoes (promoted in the magazine Oesterreichischer Komet in 1912). The author compares various secondary sources to verify the existence of these films and their echoes in the press of the period, presenting information about the films he accumulated from various secondary archival sources, offering a wider view on the history of film in Rijeka until 1945.
