Meditative games

On the occasion of the international festival of experimental film the author considers festivals in Croatia and explains how cinemas close down sue to overly competitive television and the »glamour« industry, while festivals turned out to be more resistant to these trends because they can contribute to the glamour without loosing their cultural function. Program of the first 25 FPS was dedicated to the narrowest core of international experimental film and video, while Split festival of New film and video was more open to non-conventional forms. Zagreb festival also succeeded in animating the public. The organizers offered an extremely useful overview of main currents in the contemporary experimental film so that this new festival evidently fulfiled a prominent social function.
