LAST DAY MARKED BY WORKSHOPS, SCREENINGS AND „SPOTS“ UNDER STARRY SKY
The third day of the 16th Youth Film Festival and the 4th Four River Film Festival did not leave much room for boredom. From film workshops and competition screenings to the programme under the stars, the yellow Hollywood is slowly coming to an end.
In the morning, young filmmakers had a chance to participate in different film workshops. Four venues – Lumier media, Youth Library, Karlovac Gymnasium and Youth Centre Grabrik became centres of creative undertaking, guided by Vjekoslav Živković – leader of the animation by coffee workshop, Jura Troje – heading the one-take film workshop, the crew of the film The show must go on, Ivana Štedul, the guiding force of the radio drama workshop and Zdenka Mihelj heading the film mask and make-up workshop.
And while some took in the knowledge at the workshops, those slightly younger enjoyed the screening in the programme Film 5+ with Dukatino. At 11 am at City Theatre Zorin dom, the screening of the animated adventure following the landing of American astronaut, captain Charles Chuck Baker on Planet 51. This successful Spanish animation came as an alternative to the recent Disney hits and once again drew a big crowd to Zorin dom. In charge of the great atmosphere were once again mascots Dukatino and Balthasar who again succeeded in making the children laugh out loud even after the screening.
The afternoon was reserved for the competition screenings, with the first one starting at 2:30 PM and continuing with two more with films from Belgium, China, Croatia, USA, Spain, UK, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Serbia and Czech Republic. After the screening of a total of thirty-five films, the young authors again found the time for their audience and shared with them the most interesting moments of making their little masterpieces.
The end of the day was marked by the screening of Aldo Tardozzi’s Spots and judging from the audience’s response it certainly justified its participation in competition of this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival. Before the screening, director Aldo Tardozzi addressing the audience couldn’t conceal his excitement before such a large and “unforced” audience. He was accompanied by the film’s producers, Barbara Jukopila and Ljubo Zdjelarević and actress Iskra Jirsak. Great atmosphere continued late into the night with the songs played by DJ Blagajnica hoće ići na more.
We are only a few hours away from the grand closing of the 16th Youth Film Festival and the 4th Four River Film Festival. Today at 11 o’clock there is again a screening of The Little Flying Bears at City Theatre Zorin dom. At the same time but at a different venue – the Youth Library, we will present a festival from Italy, Timeline Film Fest, a project of a group of enthusiasts from The Institute of Secondary Education Leonardo da Vinci, and the Irish Fresh Film Festival. A special treat of the last day is the debate entitled “Does violence on film cause violence in reality?”. Come to Zorin dom at 12:30 and find out what young filmmakers think about violence, while only two hours later join us for the announcement of the winners, the award ceremony and the grand closing, once again greeting Cowboy, Sith, Charlie and Balthasar!
